What a creative studio actually needs from merch

Serbian design studios — from independent graphic designers in Dorćol and Vračar to small branding and interior studios in Novi Sad — work on short cycles: a pitch deck, a brand identity rollout, a pop-up exhibition, an annual client gift. The merch they order tends to be small-batch, design-led and tight on deadline.

Unlike a 5,000-unit corporate rollout, a studio order is usually 30 to 200 units, with a premium on material feel, print fidelity and packaging. We work around that profile: short MOQs, several decoration methods on one order, and a Belgrade-based sample loop that lets the studio director sign off in person before serial production.

Where studio merch lands

Three recurring moments drive the order book:

Pitch and presentation kits. Branded notebooks, presentation folders, USB drives with portfolio files, printed look-books handed to prospective clients after a credentials meeting in Belgrade or Novi Sad.

Project deliverables. Once a client signs off on an identity or interior concept, branded tote bags, swing tags, gift packaging or thank-you sets are produced in small batches to ship alongside the final deliverable.

Studio team and intern kits. Onboarding a designer or an intern is a frequent reason to order 5–15 branded items — a notebook, a pen, a tote — and we keep the unit economics sensible for runs that small.

Product mix that fits a design-led brief

Most studio orders we run in Belgrade cluster around four product families:

Paper and print. Uncoated notebooks (A5 and A6), custom stickers, swing tags and printed folders. Soft-touch laminate, French flaps, ribbon markers, foil blocking in gold or copper. These usually anchor the kit.

Carry and packaging. Heavy-canvas tote bags in natural or black, kraft gift boxes with hot-foil logos, cotton dust bags for samples. The material matters — studios tend to specify by weight (gsm) and fibre, not just colour.

Drinkware and desk. Ceramic mugs, double-walled espresso cups, cork-backed coasters, ceramic pen cups. Mugs are the most common reorder item.

Apparel in small runs. Embroidered sweatshirts, screen-printed tote-front tees, branded caps. Studios usually want blanks they already trust — we work with a fixed palette of European-cut blanks rather than chasing a new blank per order.

Pricing, runs and timing

The Serbia baseline for studio orders is a 30-unit minimum on most categories, with VIP and gift-grade runs from 10 units where the unit cost carries the premium. Production takes 5–10 working days after the strike-off is signed off in writing; an express 3-day track is available for pitch-day deadlines.

Quotes go out in RSD by default, with EUR pricing on request for studios billing EU clients. VAT (PDV 20%) is added on the e-invoice via SEF e-faktura; export invoices are issued tax-free with the EUR.1 movement certificate when the client is outside Serbia. Strike-off sample cost is credited against the final order once it confirms at 200+ units.

Volume discount tiers kick in at 250+ units (5–10% off unit price), 500+ (10–18%) and 1,000+ (18–28%). Most studios stay below 500 units per order; the tiers exist for studios running an annual client-gift run or an exhibition print run that pushes past 1,000 pieces.

How a studio order moves with us

The studio director or producer sends a brief: product list, quantities per SKU, decoration notes, reference visuals, the date the merchandise needs to land. We come back within one Belgrade business day with options, pricing per SKU in RSD, and a production window.

Once the brief is locked, we produce a strike-off on the chosen decoration method — silkscreen, UV print, embroidery, foil stamping or laser engraving, depending on the substrate — and the studio signs off in person at our Belgrade production partner's facility or by photo and PDF. Serial production starts the next working day and the finished goods are delivered same-day in Belgrade, next-day in Novi Sad or Niš.

If the studio wants a recurring cadence — say, a monthly 30-unit gift run or a quarterly client kit — we hold a small buffer stock at our Belgrade warehouse so reorders ship within 48 hours, with no strike-off loop.

Belgrade production craft

Decoration work is split across a small network of Belgrade and Zemun production partners. Silkscreen and UV print run out of two multi-press workshops in Savski Venac; embroidery and woven labels come from a family-run shop in Palilula; leather engraving and metalwork go to a craftsman in Skadarlija. Foil stamping, die-cutting and custom binders are handled by a print finisher in Novi Beograd.

The reason the production is split rather than centralised: each method has its own specialist, and a design-led brief usually mixes two or three methods in one kit. That mix is hard to deliver from a single shop without a quality trade-off.

Serbia context for studio merch

Belgrade's independent design scene — graphic and branding studios, interior and product studios, a handful of larger multi-disciplinary houses — runs a steady order book with us. The briefs tend to be material-specific: a Pantone match on uncoated stock, a particular cotton tote weight, a specific ribbon colour. We treat those specs as the contract, not as preferences to be negotiated down.

Calendar-wise, studio orders cluster around three windows: February–March (year-start client gifts and pitch kits ahead of Q2), June (end-of-year project wraps for studios on a January-to-December cycle), and October–November (portfolio season, when graduating designers and studios preparing year-end portfolio sends overlap).

Frequently asked questions

What minimum order makes sense for a creative studio?

For most categories the Serbia baseline is 30 units. For pitch kits and small gift runs we run from 10 units, with a higher unit cost to cover the set-up. We do not have a 500-unit minimum — studio-scale is built in to how the production partners are set up.

How fast can a studio order be turned around?

Standard production is 5–10 working days after strike-off sign-off. The express track is 3 working days for items that don't require a custom blank; we use it for pitch-day deadlines and last-minute client gifts, with a modest rush premium.

Can the studio specify Pantone and substrate?

Yes. We work to Pantone PMS with a Delta-E ≤ 2.5 colour tolerance on calibrated presses. Substrate is specified by the studio — paper weight in gsm, fabric weight in oz or gsm, fibre composition — and we confirm against a strike-off before serial production starts.

Can we order a recurring studio kit on a monthly cadence?

Yes. We hold a small buffer at our Belgrade warehouse against an agreed recurring order, and replenish on a fixed cycle. Reorders then ship within 48 hours with no strike-off loop. Pricing is locked at the original quote unless the spec changes.

Is Corp-Merch a partner or affiliate of my studio or its clients?

No. Corp-Merch is an independent merchandise production partner. We produce branded merchandise for many studios, agencies and enterprises across Serbia and the wider region, but we have no formal partnership, sponsorship or affiliation with the studios we supply or with their customers. References to specific Serbian studios on this page are illustrative of the type of client we serve, not endorsements.

Can the merch be invoiced to a studio's EU client?

Yes. For EU clients we issue a tax-free invoice with an EUR.1 movement certificate. The studio receives a Serbian invoice in RSD with PDV 20% for its own books, and the end-client receives a separate export invoice in EUR. We coordinate both flows so the studio's accounting stays clean.
